The best thing about flying model RC Planes? The crashes! If you need something to cheer you up, check this out:

I read today that a reported helicopter crash in the USA turned out to be a 2 foot long RC Model. A motorist driving over the Interstate 526 Bridge in South Carolina panicked when they saw a smoking aircraft plummeting towards the Wando River and called 911, which in turn alerted 3 fire trucks and a battalion chief to the scene.  Once there, the fire-fighters found two people talking to a local police officer about their RC Model Helicopter. D’oh!

Apparently these radio-controlled models are pretty lifelike, enough to fool someone into thinking a real crash was happening. Personally, I don’t blame the motorist for calling 911, I’d probably do the same thing, but I’m sure the emergency services felt a bit stupid when they arrived at the scene. Although I’m sure they were relieved that a real crash hadn’t happened, so at least the story ended happily. Not so much I suppose for the two people whose helicopter it was, but I’m sure the crash was spectacular – I hope they filmed it so they’ve got something to take away from the day.

ParkZone Messerschmitt BF-109G

My boyfriend likes to fly radio controlled planes & helicopters – I’ve never really understood his obsession to be honest, but whatever makes him happy is ok with me. It’s his birthday soon, so I’ve ordered him a new Parkzone Messerschmitt BF-109G – should keep him quiet for a while 🙂
